An Egyptian-inspired oud blend at the highest grade in the range. Deep agarwood, warm amber, and Cairo jasmine. A smoke built on one of the oldest fragrance traditions in the world.

Misir is the Arabic word for Egypt. It is also the name given to a fragrance tradition that stretches back further than almost any other in the world — to a civilisation that burned aromatic resins in ceremony, traded in precious woods and gums across the ancient routes, and placed fragrance at the centre of ritual, hospitality, and daily life. Cairo was, and remains, one of the great fragrance cities of the world. Its jasmine is considered among the finest available anywhere.

Oud Misir takes the agarwood oil that anchors this entire range and places it in an Egyptian register. The oud provides the deep, woody, resinous base — dark and complex, with the leathery warmth that distinguishes genuine agarwood from its synthetic approximations. Warm amber wraps around it, adding a softness and a slow-burning sweetness that opens gradually over the burn. Cairo jasmine sits above both, bright and honeyed, lifting the blend and giving it the floral elegance that Egyptian perfumery is known for. The result is a smoke that is deeply layered — darker and more complex than Oud Al Arab, more textured and floral than Oud Noir. It occupies a room with the kind of quiet authority that only a blend this carefully considered can produce.

This is Grade 1.3 — the highest oil load in the range, the most refined expression of every oil it carries, and the smallest batch size. It is not an everyday incense. It is a deliberate choice for an evening that deserves one.

Why customers choose this incense

The oud and amber pairing is one of the most beloved combinations in Arabic and North African fragrance traditions, and for good reason. The two materials complement each other in a way that few other combinations achieve — the agarwood provides depth and darkness, the amber provides warmth and longevity, and the interplay between them shifts and develops across the full length of the burn.

What makes Oud Misir distinct within this range is the addition of Cairo jasmine at the top of the blend. Jasmine from Cairo has a softer, more honeyed character than Indian or Mediterranean varieties, and at Grade 1.3 it has enough oil behind it to come through clearly without being overwhelmed by the depth of the oud underneath. The three notes sit in genuine balance rather than one dominating the others.

It is also worth noting the context in which this blend sits. The Worldly Aromas oud family covers five distinct expressions — from Oud Black at Grade 1.2 to Oud Noir and Oud Al Arab at Grade 1.3. Oud Misir is the most layered and most floral of the Grade 1.3 expressions. It is the natural choice for those who love the depth of oud but want something with more warmth and complexity than a pure wood expression delivers.

How to use

Place the stick in a ceramic or stone holder. Light the tip and allow it to catch for thirty seconds. Blow gently until the flame subsides. The smoke will carry for approximately forty-five minutes.

Oud Misir belongs in the evening. It is not a light or background smoke — it has density and presence, and it rewards a room that is kept still while it burns. Allow fifteen to twenty minutes before the full blend reveals itself. The jasmine opens first, bright and honeyed. The amber emerges in the middle of the burn, bringing warmth and softness. The oud holds through to the end and remains in the room long after the stick has finished.

It pairs well with frankincense, which provides a resinous counterpoint to the amber's sweetness. For those who want to explore the Egyptian connection further, Cairo jasmine essential oil from the range makes a natural companion.

A note on Grade 1.3

Grade 1.3 is the highest grade in this range. The ratio of pure essential oil to base material is significantly higher than Grade 1.1 or 1.2, which produces a denser smoke, a longer-lasting scent, and a far greater complexity of character across the forty-five minute burn. At this grade, the three oils in Oud Misir — agarwood, amber, and jasmine — all have sufficient presence to be experienced as distinct notes within the blend. That layering is what Grade 1.3 makes possible. At a lower grade, the oud would dominate and the jasmine and amber would recede. At 1.3, the blend works as intended.

How Oud Misir sits within the oud family

The Worldly Aromas oud range offers five distinct expressions of the same foundational material. Understanding where each one sits makes choosing the right stick considerably easier.

Oud Black at Grade 1.2 is the most defined and charcoal-forward expression — sharp, clear, and precise. It suits those who want the wood without softening.

Oud Noir at Grade 1.3 is the purest expression of agarwood in the range — dark, leathery, and musky, with nothing added to redirect or soften the oil.

Oud Al Arab at Grade 1.3 layers the agarwood with amber, warm spice — cinnamon and clove — and undertones of rose and jasmine. It is the most orientally complex blend in the family.

Oud Misir is the most floral of the Grade 1.3 expressions. It shares the amber warmth of Oud Al Arab but replaces the warm spice with Cairo jasmine, producing a blend that is softer and more honeyed in character. Where Oud Al Arab is spiced and exotic, Oud Misir is warm and quietly opulent.

Frequently asked questions

What does Oud Misir smell like?
It opens with Cairo jasmine — bright, honeyed, and softly floral. Warm amber emerges in the middle of the burn, adding sweetness and depth. Pure agarwood holds the blend throughout — dark, woody, and resinous — and remains in the room long after the stick has finished. It is a layered, complex smoke that develops across the full forty-five minutes rather than arriving all at once.

How does this differ from Oud Al Arab?
Both are Grade 1.3 blends built around agarwood and amber. Oud Al Arab adds warm spice — cinnamon and clove — for an oriental depth and complexity. Oud Misir replaces the spice with Cairo jasmine, producing a softer, more floral, and more honeyed character. If you prefer warmth and sweetness over spice and depth, Oud Al Misir is the right choice. If you want the full oriental complexity, Oud Al Arab is the one.

Is this suitable as a gift?
Yes, and particularly for someone with an interest in Arabic or North African fragrance traditions, or for anyone who appreciates a genuinely considered oud blend. It is also available as part of the Oud Al Arab and Oud Misir bundle, which makes a strong gift for those who want to explore both Grade 1.3 expressions together.

Is it safe to burn indoors?
Yes. This incense contains no synthetic materials, chemical accelerants, or artificial binders. Burn in a ventilated room with a proper holder placed on a heat-safe surface. Keep away from draughts, children, and pets. Never leave a burning stick unattended.
