The resinous heartwood of the Aquilaria tree. Warm, deep, and ancient in character.

Agarwood is one of the most valued materials in the history of fragrance. It is not wood in the conventional sense. It forms only when the Aquilaria tree becomes infected with a particular mould, responding by producing a dense, dark resin in its heartwood to resist the intrusion. That resin is what gives agarwood its scent — a layered, woody warmth with an earthy depth that has made it the foundation of perfumery traditions across the Arabian Peninsula, South Asia, and East Asia for over a thousand years.

The oil drawn from this wood, known in Arabic as oud, is one of the most expensive natural materials in the world. This incense carries agarwood oil at Grade 1.1, hand-rolled in small batches using a recipe carried across generations. The natural resin base supports the wood note without competing with it. The result is a smoke that opens slowly and lingers long.

How to use

Place the stick in a ceramic or stone holder. Light the tip and allow it to catch for thirty seconds. Blow gently until the flame subsides. The smoke will carry for approximately forty-five minutes.

Agarwood is best burned in the late afternoon or evening, in a room that can be kept still while it burns. It is not a light or incidental smoke. It fills a space deliberately and rewards patience. Allow the stick to burn for at least ten minutes before the full character of the oil reveals itself.

A note on Grade 1.1

Grade 1.1 is the entry point in this range and it is the right grade for agarwood at this price. The oil load is lighter than Grade 1.2 or 1.3, which keeps the smoke accessible without losing the material's fundamental character. The depth of agarwood comes through at any grade. What the higher grades add is density and duration — qualities that belong to the Reserve tier Oud Al Arab and Oud Al Misir. This is where that lineage begins.
